What is the difference between single-sided and double-sided cantilever racking?

The main difference between single-sided and double-sided cantilever racking is that arms are fixed on one side or on both sides of the vertical upright columns.

Cantilever Racking Design

Single-sided cantilever racking consists of a single row of vertical columns (braced together) with arms that extend from one side of the upright columns. The systems are typically placed against the perimeter walls of warehouses.

In contrast, double-sided cantilever racking features arms on both sides of the upright columns. This allows for storage and access from both sides and obviously doubles the potential storage capacity for any warehouse or yard.

The above systems can be adjusted to suit changing stock requirements, and  Stakapal will work alongside you to offer a bespoke service to suit your budget and company requirements.

Storage Capacity

Double-sided cantilever racking offers increased storage capacity compared to single-sided racking. As arms are on both sides of the racking, double sided systems are ideal for applications requiring storage for long or awkward items in greater volumes.

Single-sided cantilever racks, on the other hand, are suitable for applications where space is limited, or when the racks need to be placed against a wall or are in confined areas. Most commonly used when there is restricted access by fork-lift trucks to the racks from only one side or when the number of products to be stored is relatively low.

Ultimately, the choice between single-sided and double-sided cantilever racking depends on factors such as the available space, stock-holding requirements plus the accessibility needs of your specific application.
