Quick Tips for Optimising Racking Systems

Quick Tips For Optimising Racking Systems by Stakapal - Leaders in Innovative Warehouse and Yard Storage Racking Solutions

Optimising racking systems is essential for not only maximising storage space within your warehouse and yard but also improving warehouse productivity.

Our experts at Stakapal have come up with some quick tips to help you optimise your racking systems.

Choose the Right Racking System

Assess your storage needs and select a racking system that suits your inventory. Some of the options include cantilever rackingpallet racking, and pigeon hole racking.

Regular Inspections

Conduct routine inspections to identify and repair damages. This ensures the safety and longevity of your racking system. You should have a Person Responsible for Racking Safety (PRRS) on site who is responsible for the maintenance and should routinely inspect racking for any damage. A SEMA Approved Racking Inspector (SARI) should complete a full racking inspection annually.

Stakapal offers its customers the opportunity to schedule an annual racking inspection as part of our ongoing support services from our in-house SARI’s. Alternatively, you can find SEMA Approved Inspectors closer to you or book your PRRS on the SEMA Racking Awareness course the first step to becoming a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector.

Proper Load Distribution

Distributing loads evenly across racks prevents overloading, excessive leaning and damage to the structure and the products being stored. The manufacturer’s load notice guidelines must be adhered to for weight limits which are clearly displayed on the side of the racking upon installation.

Not sure about your load notices?  Contact your racking manufacturer to see how they can help.

Utilise Vertical Space

Are you making the most of your storage space? Stakapal racking is an excellent option for utilising the height (and width) of any building, our design team will consider the whole space when planning your project and identify any opportunity for additional storage.

Don’t waste space – build in it!

Implement Safety Measures

Safety Barriers protecting Pallet Racking by Stakapal

Safety and protection for your staff and products are paramount in any business, but with heavy machinery in operation and loads of various shapes and sizes being moved around the risk increases substantially. Reduce this risk by installing safety products such as safety barriers, post protectors and mesh backing to your racking to prevent damage which can limit accidents and also save you money.

You can also check the SEMA website for any courses they are running or information available to make sure your staff are up to date with health and safety around racking and are following the correct procedures to improve safety operations.

Adapt to Changing Needs

Circumstances change along with the requirements for space and storage, Stakapal’s Cantilever Racking is fully adjustable and can be configured to your specific business needs at the time. Your racking should be reviewed regularly and adjusted to accommodate changes in inventory and storage requirements.

By optimising racking systems, you can enhance the efficiency, safety, and lifespan of your racking systems, ensuring a well-organised and productive warehouse or yard environment.
